The Standard Mental Health First Aid course equips employees with the skills and knowledge to provide support to an adult who is experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis. Participants will learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help.

A person will take on the role of an accidental counsellor when they find themselves in a situation that requires them to help someone when another person is feeling overwhelmed.  This workshop will assist participants to gain an understanding of what is the role of an accidental counsellor, being self-aware of your own values and beliefs, developing communications strategies to overcome barriers, applying solutions focused strategies, working with difficult behaviours and putting in place boundaries to assist with self-care.

Research advises that emotional intelligence improves a persons ability to have better social relationships. Whilst there are many approaches to Emotional Intelligence, this training is based on the Salovey and Mayer’s (1997) Four Branch Model that includes: 1) accurately perceive emotions in oneself and others, 2) use emotions to facilitate thinking, 3) understand emotional meaning, and 4) manage emotions. This workshop is suited to participants who want to improve their understanding of themselves and others. 

One day workshop includes the Extended DISC Behavioural Analysis as an assessment to measure unconscious behaviour and to identify your natural behavioural style.
